We regularly verify all listings against the Central Bank of Kenya's official Digital Credit Provider (DCP) register. You can also independently verify any lender on the official CBK website (centralbank.go.ke).

The Verified badge means the Loanely research team has independently reviewed and confirmed the app's contact details, interest rates, repayment terms, and app store links for accuracy. It is an internal quality check that complements official CBK licensing.

We list unlicensed apps — clearly flagged with a red warning badge — for public consumer safety. Hiding unlicensed lenders would leave Kenyan borrowers unaware of their legal status. Flagging them empowers borrowers to avoid unauthorized or predatory platforms.

Our team monitors official CBK gazette notices and register updates monthly. When a lender is newly licensed, suspended, or revoked, we update their status on Loanely in real time.

Under the CBK Digital Credit Providers Regulations, licensed digital lenders must disclose all fees and pricing. The CBK guidelines cap interest rates for regulated DCPs at around 2.5% to 3% per month. Be cautious of unregulated apps charging exorbitant daily roll-over fees.

No. Under Kenya's Data Protection Act (2019) and CBK DCP Regulations, digital lenders are strictly forbidden from scraping phone contacts or harassing your family, friends, or employers for debt collection. If an app does this, report them to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) and on our Report a Lender page.

If you default on a loan from a licensed lender, they may submit your default record to registered Credit Reference Bureaus (CRB) such as Metropol, TransUnion, or CreditInfo after giving proper notice. This can affect your credit score. Unlicensed apps cannot legally report to CRBs, but often resort to illegal debt-shaming.

To clear a CRB listing: 1) Repay the outstanding debt in full with the lender. 2) Request a Clearance Certificate or updated clearance status directly from the lender. 3) Check your status on Metropol (dial *433#) or TransUnion (Nipashe app/SMS) to confirm updated status.

Listings are reviewed by our admin team within 1 to 3 business days after payment confirmation. Once approved, your listing goes live immediately and your featured period (if applicable) begins.
